UNPRECEDENTED SH!T [INDIE EXCLUSIVE COKE BOTTLE CLEAR LP]
$29.98  34.60
chart cover

These days, every artist’s album needs to have a story. The music can’t speak for itself.

But after 22 records, why can’t Ani DiFranco’s work speak for itself? Yes, her forthcoming album is shaped by stories — ones about reproductive freedom, the double-edged sword of the pandemic, identity and ever-evolving belief systems that have shaped each of its 11 songs. It was paramount to the folk-feminist hero that listeners not be saddled with preconceived notions while diving into her 23rd album Unprecedented Sh!t. “I believe there is a rhyme and a reason as to why these songs have come together in this way now and I want people to experience this album as a journey, a piece of art, without being influenced by a cacophony of surrounding narratives.”

While many of DiFranco’s albums were made more insularly, she’s opened herself up to collaboration in recent years. For 21 of DiFranco’s 22 albums, she opted to self-produce. With Unprecedented Sh!t, she wanted to try working with a producer and tapped BJ Burton, who produced one of her favorite albums, Bon Iver’s 22, A Million.

The title Unprecedented Sh!t is not only representative of how much of a sonic departure the 11-track album is from Ani’s other work, but also a political and social commentary on the current state of the world. “We find ourselves in unprecedented times in many ways, faced with unprecedented challenges. So, our responses to them and our discourse around them, need to rise to that level.”

Hold My Beer, Vol. 3 + 4 [LP]
$24.98  28.83
chart cover
Country music's Randy Rogers and Wade Bowen are back with more tunes, announcing that their EP Hold My Beer Vol. 4 will arrive on July 12. The latest entry to their Hold My Beer canon, Vol. 4 contains six songs exploring love, nostalgia, life on the road and, of course, drinking. Following the release, the two friends will hit the road on the HOLD MY BEER TOUR beginning in July. And the guys will be offering Vol. 3 and Vol. 4 combined on a limited edition LP and CD. Both veterans of the Country music scene, Rogers and Bowen decided to team up in a professional capacity in 2015 when they released Hold My Beer, Vol. 1. Their newest project, much like the first EP and 2020's Vol. 2, is a collection of twang-heavy tracks made for drinking, dancing and reminiscing, with Rogers and Bowen trading off as they sing over steel guitars and fiddles. "Hold my Beer Vol. 4 is finally here," Rogers shares. "I absolutely love making these records with Wade and am so proud of these songs — we wrote every single one. Listen responsibly. Cheers!" "If you don’t have fun listening to these songs, I feel sorry for ya," Bowen adds. "No reason we should have this much fun 'working!' I hope you love these songs as much as we love making them. Grab some friends and drink a few for us! Cheers!" Rogers and Bowen's Hold My Beer projects are the culmination of over two decades of friendship, the initial collaboration an unplanned happenstance that has since blossomed into a thriving outlet of artistic expression that "offers up a lightheartedness — a departure from their more heartache-ridden solo work — and the fine art of breaking open a cold one with buddies," as declared by American Songwriter. With Hold My Beer Vol. 4 and their HOLD MY BEER TOUR Rogers and Bowen will only continue their "pitcher perfect" partnership.

Love Direction
$29.98  29.98
chart cover
The DIP is a Seattle-based Rhythm and Blues band that is known for it's poignant songwriting, detailed arrangements, and vintage sound. Featuring a three-piece horn section, the group's music harkens back to earlier soul and funk influences while hinting at the jazz foundations that brought the band's members together. Love Direction, the follow-up to 2022's Sticking With It (which landed at #1 on the Billboard Current R&B Albums Chart) is the band's fourth full-length studio album. Despite the title, this latest record isn't a collection of straightforward love songs, but an investigation into the different angles and challenges that relationships can bring. Expanding on the album's theme, Eddy notes "These aren't 'Love Songs' in the most obvious sense. They deal with the middle stages, the hinterlands of love and life together - figuring someone out and what they need, learning how to communicate, and examining your own faults. We set out to write music that felt more grown, a little wiser. The songs that emerged all pointed in the Love Direction.

My Light My Destroyer [Colored Vinyl]

Cassandra Jenkins is quite simply one of the best songwriter-storytellerscurrently making music. Hers is a specific and singular corner of the Great AmericanSongwriters, artists like David Berman, Adrianne Lenker, Jeff Tweedy and Sufjan Stevens. They're artists connected by a sense of immediacy, not just in the writing - which is precise, evocative, brutal at times, pitch-back funny right when you need it - but by their delivery, bythe way they sing with an immersive, total belief that carries you through their songs. Theseare the artists and songs that sneak up and really live with us forever, and on My Light, MyDestroyer, Jenkins joins their ranks. What's most remarkable about My Light, My Destroyer is it captures anartist at an exciting leap in her evolution. So much about the album feels of-a-kind with it'spredecessors; field recordings and found sound permeate, narrative songwriting crashesinto heady, swirling compositions. Jenkins sings with what can only be described as a powerwhisper (think Sufjan Stevens, Annie Lennox, Margo Timmins or YHF-era Tweedy), hervocals up close and intimate but subtly confrontational. But it all feels bigger here, morefinely honed, bolder and richer than her previous work and than her peers.Born and raised in New York City, Jenkins has been touring and performingsince she was a child, self-releasing her early recordings before releasing breakthrough AnOverview on Phenomenal Nature in 2021. On My Light, My Destroyer, many of the songs aredevoted to specific feelings, and to really getting inside those feelings as opposed to gettinginside a narrative arc. Lead single "Only one" is one example, as Jenkins's asserts that amoment, or a song, can be wholly myopic; it can embody a singular feeling, and provides noanswers.Songs like Devotion, Delphinium Blue, Clams Casino, Echo, and Only One,speak to the liberating quality of focused observation, even to the point of disillusionment."There's this idea about disillusionment that I've held onto," she says. "I really appreciatedisillusionment as a process to discover new, unexpected outcomes. We let go of expectationsthis way. Expectations hold us back. It's easy to focus on jadedness or disappointment but Iactually see it more as freedom."

Love Out Of Lemons [Bone Colored LP]
$24.98  28.83
chart cover

On sophomore album Love Out of Lemons, revered Nashville troubadour Bones Owens continues to evolve his cultured rock songwriting while capturing the energy of his renowned live shows. Released on July 12 by Black Ranch Records, Love Out of Lemons collects deeply grooving snapshots of carefree times and top-down drives with subtleties that linger long after the party’s over.
“This record sort of picks up where my debut full-length left off,” offered Owens from yet another hotel room on yet another tour. “Energetic rock very typical of my live show.” Raised on country, gospel, and bluesy classic rock in rural Missouri, Owens took up guitar at age 10 and within three years was writing his own songs. At 21, he landed a publishing deal and relocated to Nashville, where he was soon a sought-after session and touring guitarist for a diverse array of artists from Yelawolf and Mikky Ekko to Carrie Underwood and Bon Jovi. Owens also co-wrote most of Yelawolf’s Trial by Fire album. An old soul with a poet’s way with words, Owen’s early self-released solo EPs attracted the attention of Thirty Tigers (The White Buffalo, Smashing Pumpkins etc.), who released his eponymous debut album in 2021 and the more introspective, Americana-tinted Eighteen heeler EP two years later. Like Eighteen Wheeler, Love Out of Lemons was produced by Paul Moak at his Smoakstack studio in Nashville. But while the EP was something of an introspective departure for Owens, Love Out of Lemons is a blithe dive into his eclectic, nuanced rock and alt-roots sensibilities, from the genre-fluid grooves of heyday War to the lean bluesy influence of Creedence Clearwater Revival. “I wanted to do another record that was largely rock, but also for it to have more than one gear,” said Owens. Love Out of Lemons features co-writes with Henry Brill (Phantogram, Jack Garratt) on “Born
Again” and Austin Jenkins (Leon Bridges, White Denim) on “Higher Than I Wanna Be.” Drums throughout were played by Julian Dorio (The Whigs, Eagles of Death Metal), with all other instruments handled by Owens and producer Moak. The album’s intentions are clear from the first bars of the opening title track; an irresistibly head-bobbing, outdoorsy strut that explores relationships from which love will never bloom, no matter how hard one or both parties try. “I was thinking of Eric Burdon or War as kind of the starting point for that song,” Owens recalled. “Summer Skin” epitomizes Love Out of Lemons’ mellower sonic subplots, tapping into a
carefree era of Owen’s life largely spent riding motorcycles and hanging out with friends, drink in hand. With additional arrangement and instruments by L.A.-based singer- songwriter/producer Josh Ostrander (Mondo Cozmo, Eastern Conference Champions), its organic, breezy verses are punctuated with an epic cascade of a chorus rich in twinkling, sepia toned nostalgia. The tambourine-flecked AC/DC strut of “Get In On” is a neon washed, two-and-a-half-minute
dive bar anthem, its universally relatable refrain elevated with ecstatic organ and Owens’ soaring vocal. “I’ve waited all day long / To get it / To get it / To get it on,” implores its insistent, made-for-the-stage chorus. As well as his ongoing touring, Owens will be making a solo trek around the Midwest on his Harley Davidson to coincide with the release of Love Out of Lemons. “I’ll just have a guitar strapped on the back to do some intimate shows and radio spots,” he explained. “As well as checking in on friends and family along the way.” Originally planned for the previous November, the trip was postponed after Owens struck a deer on his motorcycle the day before he was due to leave. Tying-in with Love Out of Lemons standout “Goin’ Back Where I Came From,” the route will include Owens’ native Missouri, as
well as Harley Davidson’s Milwaukee headquarters. “I think it’s perfect that the record is coming out in the summer,” he concluded before heading out to the night’s soundcheck. “Because it very much feels like a sunny day, drivin’-down-the-road soundtrack to me.

Pioneers of Kinshasa's sonic revolution, Kokoko! Have captivated global audiences with their striking sonics and energetic performances since 2017. Their accolades include best live band award by AIF, NPR Tiny Desk and Boiler Room slots, appearances at festivals including All Points East, SXSW, Green Man and Pitchfork Festival, and a placement on the Grand Theft Auto and FIFA soundtracks. Their critically acclaimed debut album Fongola achieved global praise, with DJ Mag labelling it "quite unlike anything else you'll hear", while The Guardian called the group a "commanding new voice". The Congolese city of Kinshasa's after-dark buzz was the inspiration behind their sophomore album, BUTU, which means 'the night' in Lingala, and the experimental record dives deep into the heart of the chaotic place, celebrating the joyful and creative spirit of it's inhabitants. With vocalist Makara Bianko at the helm and production from Xavier Thomas, AKA DĂ©bruit, this follow-up to Fongola finds the group channelling a more electronic, upbeat sound. BUTU is a replication of the frenetic feel of that dynamic nightlife - equipment being pushed to it's limit, via saturated and distorted speakers, or the sonic push and pull of sounds after dark.

Medium Build’s forthcoming album Country exists as a duality, running the spectrum of human emotions from playful optimism and visceral affirmations of life to heartbreak, loss, fear, and loneliness. Raised in Georgia, educated in Tennessee, and transformed in Alaska, his stories speak to the spectrum of those experiences and eagerly draw outside the clear lines of genre binaries – pulling from classic country, ‘80s new wave, '90s pop, and early 00's emo in equal measure. In another era, Medium Build might have just as easily been a rhinestone cowboy – lonesome out on the range, a blue-eyed crooner on a smooth-sailing yacht, or a leather-clad video star, but in the here and now, he’s no one but himself.

Merriweather Post Pavilion (15th Anniversary Edition) [DELUXE EDITION, BLUISH & TRANSLUCENT GREEN LP]
$39.98  39.98
chart cover

Merriweather Post Pavilion, Animal Collective's ninth studio album, sees the American art-rock collective in heartwarmingly baffling form, combining upbeat indietronica with mind-warping samples. For its 15th anniversary, the 2xLP has been pressed on color vinyl for the first time, Bluish and Translucent Green, and is housed in a reflective foil deluxe gatefold jacket.

Merriweather Post Pavilion was universally acclaimed upon its release in 2009 and was named the #1 best album of the year by Pitchfork, Entertainment Weekly, Spin, and KEXP. “Every once in a while, musicians sweep away the existing musical landscape to create something new,” stated NPR at the time. “Animal Collective is such a group, and its new Merriweather Post Pavilion is such an album.” It has since been recognized as one of the most influential records of the 2000s. “When it comes to 2000s indie, Merriweather stands as the era’s alpha and omega,” Pitchfork has written, “a diamond-cut reflection of the era’s eccentricities, seemingly impossible to replicate in form or format.”

Let's Walk [LP]
$24.98  28.83
chart cover

“Let us advance our mortal bodies up
Where hearts and minds will go
Let’s walk, let’s roll.”

So sings Madeleine Peyroux on the upbeat title track of her captivating tenth album, Let’s Walk, the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s most assured, courageous work to date. Powered by the distinctive, honeyed croon that delivered her from the Paris streets to concert halls, these ten unabashedly personal songs, all co-written by the versatile Peyroux, deftly interweave jazz, folk, and chamber pop, with themes ranging from the confessional to the political, from whimsy to yearning. In every note, Peyroux digs deep, rendering this exquisite work with the disarming grace and gravitas of an artist in peak form.

Let’s Walk was a long time coming, but well worth the wait. Following Peyroux’s 2018 album, Anthem, the enforced isolation of the global pandemic made any real-time community gathering impossible. From a creative standpoint, however, Covid offered Peyroux a silver lining: she seized the opportunity to hunker down with longtime collaborator, multi-instrumentalist Jon Herington (Steely Dan, Lucy Kaplansky). The pair reflected on the seismic era at hand and wrote and re-wrote in what Peyroux calls “a shadow of reckoning.” When multi-Emmy-and-Grammy-winning producer Elliott Scheiner (Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles) heard a sampling of the new material, including “Let’s Walk,” he mandated “no covers” for the album. The longtime studio veteran knew the time was ripe to highlight Peyroux’s incisive, often topical lyrics meshed with Herington’s ear for melody and arrangements.

Album opener “Find True Love” came to Peyroux during the George Floyd murder trial. Like “Let’s Walk,” “Find True Love” is an irresistible entreaty to join a journey. First stop: New Orleans. “I was searching for solace in the American landscape,” Peyroux says. “I was imagining the first step toward healing, if there could be a future worth living for.” The last line of each verse is a striking, yet inarguable Cornel West quote: “[One must] learn how to die.” Herington’s pulsing, finger-picked acoustic guitar, interwoven with Andy Ezrin’s shimmering keys, propel Peyroux’s message of steadfast hope in the face of encroaching darkness. Says Peyroux: “The ideas in this song let me imagine a place where I can become a better me.”

An astonished Peyroux says the title track came to her in a dream – including “the words, the rhythm, and the form” – a rarity for her. “The lyric refers to mass mobilization of marchers for civil rights around the world,” Peyroux says. “A voluntarily unified action in support of a humanitarian ideology.” Within two days, Herington fleshed out “Let’s Walk” with gospel textures, organ, and a steady, infectious beat, enlisting buoyant harmonies from Grammy-winning artist Catherine Russell (David Bowie, Rosanne Cash), along with vocalists supreme Cindy Mizelle (Bruce Springsteen) and Keith Fluitt (Patti LaBelle, Michael Jackson). Their churchy call-and-response with Peyroux’s burnished lead elevate “Please Come On Inside” and “Blues for Heaven” into a revival of emotion.

“How I Wish” is Peyroux’s response to the horrific murders – over a period of three months in 2020 – of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmad Arbery. This melancholy, minor key waltz acknowledges her privilege, and her anguish. “2020 was the year I woke up,” she says. Immersing herself in the work of such writers as Cornel West, she was struck by West’s repeated references to Black musicians as “Love Warriors,” responding to oppression with game-changing music: Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Marian Anderson, to name a few. “These are my teachers and my heroes,” Peyroux says. “African American music has been the one constant, true path in my life.”

One such mentor was Dan William Fitzgerald, aka “Showman Dan,” for whom Peyroux wrote a rollicking ode after her longtime friend passed away in 2017. As leader of the Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz Band, the American-born expat took a very young, inexperienced Peyroux under his wing to perform across Europe, as she says, “on the street, in the underground, the public square, jazz clubs, restaurants, and private homes of dukes and duchesses.” Like many Black artists before him, Fitzgerald found he could get more artistic traction in France than he could in his homeland and conveyed his love of street theater to Peyroux, who’d moved with her mother to Paris at age 12.

During her years in Paris, Peyroux witnessed the custom of bourgeois parents gifting their young adult children with an apartment. For the satirical “Et Puis” (“And Then”), Peyroux, fluent in French, assumes the role of that young adult as one “both blissfully ignorant of their privilege and consciously disgusted by its injustice.”

For “Nothing Personal,” Peyroux not only bravely grapples head-on with sexual assault – both her own, and others’ – she offers an alternative to incarceration, which she maintains is “a ridiculous waste of time.” Rather, the perpetrator should “learn every aspect of the consequence of their actions and be party to recovery in whatever way is welcome by the victim.” Herington’s mournful, insistent piano and acoustic guitar recall the intensity of “Plastic Ono Band,” with Peyroux’s painful-yet-resolved vocals intimate and beautifully unadorned.

Peyroux changes gears with the playful, Caribbean-flavored “Me and the Mosquito,” and rapid-fire spoken-word album closer, “Take Care.” The former, inspired by Hank Williams’ hilarious classic “Fly Trouble,” offers perhaps the most humanist treatise ever on what Peyroux calls “the elusive singular mosquito which can ruin a night’s sleep.” For the latter, Peyroux “prayed to the spoken-word genius of Linton Kwesi Johnson” to deliver a heartfelt advisory re: avoiding the pervasive toxins in food, clothing, and modern culture in general. “I don’t recommend a morose existence,” she recites over Herington’s ska-flavored guitar and sampled marimba, “but life is an art and perspective needs distance / But ya gotta get lean and scrappy and fight / If you’re gonna begin to get livin’ right.”

When the road beckons this spring, Peyroux’s community of loyal fans is in for a singular treat. Thanks to serendipitous delay, her collaborators Herington and Scheiner, and the very perspective she shares in “Take Care,” the spare, slow burning Let’s Walk material will be set free in venues around the world, effortlessly dovetailing with Peyroux’s beloved versions of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits (to name a few) classics. As she learned in her busking years, a great song can wield powerful magic, and inspire the best in any type of crowd. With Let’s Walk, Madeleine Peyroux takes full ownership of that magic.

I feel like I'm flying into this chapter where I’m the best version of myself that I've ever been. Y’all better catch-up or you’re getting left behind. I’m on fire!”

Manual Manic Procedures [Indie Exclusive Disfigured Face LP]
$32.98  38.06
chart cover

Cleveland death metal legends-in-waiting 200 Stab Wounds have returned with Manual Manic Procedures, a superlative sophomore effort that follows 2021’s Slave to the Scalpel, their tour de force debut. The new album is a brutal slab of old school death metal with a contemporary edge. Not for the faint-hearted, Manual Manic Procedures may well be the album that puts classic gore-themed ferocity back into the metal community’s collective consciousness. The band's debut, "Slave to the Scalpel" saw 200 Stab Wounds insinuate themselves into the minds of extreme metal fans, leading to praise from Pitchfork for their “unpretentious brilliance, pitch-black sense of humor” and an “aesthetic [that’s] built around a chugging, groovy riff that stomps down a path of destruction.” Manual Manic Procedures sees the band upping the ante both musically and lyrically. Ultimately, for 200 Stab Wounds, it’s all about creating art that they enjoy. “I know that if we like it, our fans will like it,” says Buhl. “That's really all that matters to us. And if we keep touring, it's just gonna get bigger and bigger. Then everyone's happy, far as I'm concerned.” The songs on Manual Manic Procedures are not safe for work – perhaps unsafe most anywhere. But that’s its dark charm in a world where even heavy music can play it too safely. 200 Stab Wounds have crafted Manual Manic Procedures for themselves and like-minded brethren: thrill-seekers, carnage cravers, horror fans, and aficionados of the most extreme metal. Above all, 200SW created a future death metal classic.

Double vinyl LP pressing. In 1999, the same year that Jason Moran released his debut recording Soundtrack To Human Motion, the pianist and composer also joined New Directions, a band made up of young stars from the Blue Note roster. At the core of New Directions was the genesis of a rhythm section-with Moran, bassist Tarus Mateen, and drummer Nasheet Waits-that would go on to become one of the most enduringly creative and acclaimed piano trios in jazz. The Bandwagon made their first recording as a trio with Facing Left in 2000 and has been the foundation of the majority of Moran's artistic statements since. On his 2010 album Ten, Moran celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Bandwagon with an assured album that was a snapshot of a mature band with a decade of shared musical experience from which to draw. In addition to provocative originals the album presented singular interpretations of pieces by Thelonious Monk, Jaki Byard, Leonard Bernstein, and Conlon Nancarrow. This first-time vinyl release includes the bonus track "Thelonious" previously only available in Japan.

atrás/além [Red 2x Vinyl LP]
$32.98  32.98

O Terno’s 2019 DIY masterpiece of modern Brazilian pop, , is now widely available on vinyl for the first time. The album (which features Devendra Banhart and Shintaro Sakamoto) had its first limited domestic vinyl pressing evaporate instantly, necessitating this essential Psychic Hotline pressing and an opportunity to introduce O Terno ("The Suit" - they both have three pieces, get it?) to a wider audience with their fourth and finest album. At its core the band is made up of Tim Bernardes (lead singer, songwriter, guitarist and piano player), Guilherme “Peixe” D’Almeida (bass) and Gabriel “Biel” Basile (drums) though all three play a part in producing, with Bernardes stepping forward to mix this record as well as composing and arranging ’s orchestral elements. A distinct departure from their previous albums - more sixties pop and less indie and psych rock - is the product of the band working in a familiar studio (RISCO) surrounded by a creative community. In the studio, they followed the open-source formula mapped out by The Beatles, The Kinks, Os Mutantes, Harry Nilson and others: write a good song (the hardest part), create a simple, yet elegant arrangement for bass, drums and guitar/piano, adorn the song with complementary instruments and melodies, and record it well, employing studio wizardry selectively and intentionally. As a result, the album sounds both retro in its analog texture and minimalist production, but contemporary in Bernardes’ songwriting and vocal style, which owes as much to Robin Pecknold (Fleet Foxes) and Grizzly Bear as to Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso or John Lennon.

Songs in A&E [LP]
$35.98  41.52
chart cover

Songs in A&E is a beautiful, chilling record and it was very nearly the last thing J Spaceman would ever release. In 2005, with the writing and recording well underway, Spaceman was rushed to the Royal London Infirmary with double pneumonia. The sleeve of this reissue is a photograph taken as he lay in what his close friends and family feared at the time was his deathbed. “We thought he’d gone,” recalled band mate John Coxon at the time. The album is collection of graceful, country-influenced songs that muse on familiar themes of love, death, hope and hopelessness. The country element was informed by a small black 1928 Gibson acoustic he’d bought in Cincinnati while the band toured the Amazing Grace record. Spaceman called it “The Devil”. J Spaceman: “Mostly, when you buy a guitar, like most things, you don't really have any idea of whether it's good or not. And this shop had about eight of the same models for comparison, but this one was in a cage, to keep people away from it, like they knew it was kind of special. And it's beautiful. It just sings. And it kind of came with those songs, which is obviously a sort of romantic notion, but it really felt like it did. I'd never written on a guitar until this point and it seemed to come with all of this information.”

Barriers [LP]
$29.98  34.60
chart cover
“Barriers”, Robert Vincent’s fourth studio album, is released, again by Thirty Tigers, on summer solstice, a time that reminds us to look inwards to find what we need to love and evolve. “I’m learning how to lower my barriers and have made a more personal album than ever before” says Vincent.

“He's the Real Deal” - Bob Harris OBE (BBC Radio 2)

Vincent’s third LP, the critically-acclaimed (“A phenomenal, spiritual listen – Sunday Times Album Review”) ‘In This Town You’re Owned’, was released by Thirty Tigers early 2020 and walked straight into a worldwide pandemic. Despite stalled promotional plans and tours, the record resonated enough to win the Americana Music Association UK’s ‘Album of The Year’ award for 2021. Receiving critical acclaim, the record also charted at number 2 in the UKAmericana Charts and American Songwriter Magazine named it in its top 20 albums (every genre) of 2020.

Vincent’s powerful and soulful voice that attracted acolytes such as Bob Harris, Paul Carrack and Mary Chapin Carpenter. In 2016, Harris awarded Robert with his
‘Emerging Artist’ of the year award at the inaugural UK Americana Awards show describing Vincent as “absolutely magnetic” and “the real deal”. In 2018 following the
release of ‘I’ll Make the Most of My Sins’ (AMAUK Album of The Year 2018) Robert was invited to perform on the BBC ‘Old Grey Whistle Test, For One Night Only’
closing the show. It was this performance that would propel him to number 1 and 2 in the iTunes Album and Singles Charts.Maintaining his status as one of the most acclaimed voices in the UK Americana rock scene, Robert’s new songs represent a real left turn for an artist who is ready for something more. The intimacy and introspection of this evolving journey on the album’s songs is captured by the sure hand and keen ear of award-winning producer Ethan Johns whose work with Ray Lamontagne is a real touchstone for Vincent’s own ambition, mellowness, and honesty on Barriers. Johns also mixes the album and provides his own gifted instrumentation.

Vincent’s core band (Anna Corcoran on piano, vocals; Jim Kimberley, drums; Danny Williams, bass; Adrian Gautrey, guitar, keys) are gathered under the eye of engineer Jon Withnall (Coldplay, I Am Kloot) and performed the music live in the studio with the addition of guitarist Joe Coombes. They are ably adept at the musical shifts and changes on the album which keep one foot bedded in Americana rock whilst moving towards a more English singer songwriter sound. Robert continues to tour extensively showing his versatility as both a solo performer and with a full band. Notable past performances include 2023 Celtic Connections at Glasgow Theatre Royal with Mary Chapin Carpenter, showcase performances at Americana Fest in Nashville, Tennessee, supporting Roger Waters at Hyde Park,Tours with Paul Carrack and Duane Eddy.Tours around and after the album are booked for this year showcasing the consummate andsearingly honest songwriting of this talented artist.

chart cover
Indie Exclusive - Include 4 bonus tracks - Formed from the remnants of Californian pop group 'The Young Swingers,' 1965 marked a pivotal moment for the members of the psychedelic folk-rock group 'Ashes.' Originating in Santa Monica, the original lineup of Alan Brackett, Jim Cherniss, Spencer Dryden, John Merrill, and Barbara Robinson began playing local clubs and released two now-obscure singles in 1965. By 1966, they adopted the name 'Ashes' and underwent personnel changes, with Cherniss departing and Dryden leaving to join Jefferson Airplane. Brackett and Merrill subsequently formed The Peanut Butter Conspiracy but reformed 'Ashes' in 1968 with new singer Pat Taylor and drummer John Voight. Recorded in 1968 and produced by Jackie Mills, the self-titled "Ashes" is a dreamy, acid folk-rock piece that was initially shelved but released by Vault Records in 1971. Now reissued on blue vinyl with extra recordings, this album is an excellent slice of mid-1960s Southern California lite-rock.

Sunset Drive
$26.98  29.46
chart cover
On her new album, Sunset Drive, Denitia shares her story of going after something new — a life back in Nashville, where she attended college, immersed in both the city’s roots music scene and the community of the artist collective Black Opry — while experiencing the menagerie of emotions that come with leaving behind what you knew and starting over. Across the album, she draws from the country and alternative rock music she listened to growing up outside of Houston; the songs of artists such as the Eagles, Vince Gill, Waylon Jennings, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, and Neil Young, ever present in her life; and the decade she spent entrenched in Brooklyn’s indie music scene. Denitia’s music has been featured in the films Nanny and The Invitation, as well as in the series Better Things (FX), Broad City (Comedy Central), Dear White People (Netflix), Shrinking (Apple TV+), and The Terminal List (Amazon). She has toured extensively with the Black Opry Revue; been invited to perform at the National Museum of African American Music and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville; and shared stages with Jason Isbell, Amythyst Kiah, Joy Oladokun, and Allison Russell, among other artists. In 2023, Denitia earned one of five spots in a residency hosted by the Black Opry and WXPN, was named to Rissi Palmer’s Color Me Country class, and was one of three artists selected for CMT and mtheory’s Equal Access cohort. And the momentum has continued in 2024: Denitia is one of CMT’s 2024 Next Women of Country; was named an artist to watch by the Nashville Scene in January; is making her Grand Ole Opry debut in late June; and will open shows for Mickey Guyton in the fall.

Manning Fireworks [Indie Exclusive]
$25.98  25.98

Opaque Red LP (Indie Exclusive).

Mj Lenderman is a songwriter born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. The anatomy of an MJ record might go something like this: warped pedal steels and skuzzed out guitar; crackin' a cold one with some buds; a voice reminiscent of the high-lonesome warble of a choirboy. Songs snake their way from a lo-fi home recording to something glossier made with longtime friends at Asheville's Drop of Sun studios, but the recording setting doesn't seem to matter much - at it's core, a Lenderman song rings true.Manning Fireworks is a remarkable development in Mj Lenderman's story as an incredibly incisive singer-songwriter, whose propensity for humor always points to some uneasy, disorienting darkness. The punchlines are still here, as are the rusted-wire guitar solos that have made Lenderman a favorite for indie rock fans looking for an emerging guitar hero. There's a new sincerity, too, as Lenderman let's listeners clearly see the world through his warped lens.

DAVID GILMOUR / LUCK AND STRANGE

Bastion [Hardwood Colored LP]
$24.98  28.83
chart cover
Wayne Graham (the band) has long been at the forefront of the new movement of artists shaping the New Appalachian Sound - shaped by tradition, but intentionally set on forging a new sonic landscape. The new album, Bastion firmly establishes them as the architects of a new sound coming from the region. The songs on the album are treated like the complex feelings we feel, vague and cloaked in mystery, or sometimes blunt and pleading for change. Different instruments wash in and out like a stream of thoughts; some soothing, some disruptive. Year after year, our perspectives unravel into new version after new version, losing vital information with each update. The songs on this record speak to the forgetting. The name or phrase on the tip of our tongue that we can’t say, because it’s hiding in our mind behind a worry or distraction. “Because every song starts as a question, we attempt to avoid the urge to find an answer, and we ask more questions.” When nothing is “100%” anything, then what is concrete enough to define fully? No definitions here, just ideas with no value outside of their real time impact on the thinker. No promise of understanding, and all you can do is sing.

Worship the Sun [translucent orange LP]
$29.98  29.98
chart cover

Allah-Las met while working at Amoeba Music, a key destination for music lovers in Los Angeles. While this experience helped shape their sensibility, their sound was forged in an underground basement where they came together as a band. They began gigging in Los Angeles in 2008, refining their live performance, and finally released their first 7” single Catamaran / Long Journey in 2011. In 2012, they began their relationship with Innovative Leisure, releasing their first self-titled album, Allah-Las, anchored by their second single Tell Me (What’s On Your Mind) / Sacred Sands. The release was met with critical acclaim and the band toured extensively in the States and abroad before going back into the studio to record their follow-up. Allah-Las’ second album, Worship The Sun, expands on the sound established by their maiden effort, honing their fusion of West Coast garage rock and roll, Latin percussion and electric folk. As richly textured and timeless as a Southern California beach break, the songs are evocative of Los Angeles’ storied past. Beatniks, artists, surfers, nomads. Remnants of a bygone Sunset Strip. Golden tans and cosmic sunsets. One can feel the warmth of the sun, but the band deftly avoids the kitsch so often indulged by lovers of these things. Hints of Byrds, Love, Felt, and those who follow are threaded into the tapestry.

Shirt [Indie Exclusive Pink LP]
$29.98  29.98
chart cover

Shirt is part angsty fantasy, part confessional melodrama – a rock album that oscillates between reality and make-believe to reflect both the innocence of suburban youth and the frayed reality of adulthood. A fusion of chaotic impulses, insatiable desires, and a perpetual yearning, Shirt plays with the tension between one's person and persona – the weight of your dreams crashing up against your reality. The result is something both familiar and uncanny, an anthemic tribute to this intrinsic duality built on crashing and caressing sounds.

Shirt is instantly recognizable as Porches' heaviest album to date. Grungy guitars that shine with a menacing glint, drums and bass that punch you warmly in the stomach, interspersed with moments of eerie calmness to create a physical sense of tension and release that resonates with each track.

A concise record that thrusts listeners into a fevered state, Shirt’s hormonal rock songs collide with emotional ballads to create a dynamic tension that propels the listener ahead. The album speaks in broad, relatable terms while maintaining an intimate connection with its creator, blurring the line between universality and personal revelation. Shirt is as much about the climaxes as it is about the banality between life's most memorable moments, celebrating not just the first kiss but also the anxiety intertwined with it.

Rack [Indie Exclusive Silver Streak Vinyl]
$24.98  28.83
chart cover
The Jesus Lizard have returned with RACK, their first record since 1998. The album features 11 tracks of brisk guitar rock you haven’t heard since… the last time the Jesus Lizard took over a stage in your town. the Jesus Lizard — vocalist David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison, bassist David Wm. Sims, and drummer Mac McNeilly — have returned with a record teeming with the kind of madness needed to beat down today’s AOR mediocrity and piss-perfect pop drivel alike. Since their inception in Chicago in 1987, the Jesus Lizard has thrilled audiences all over the planet. The impeccable rocket-thrust rhythm section of Sims and McNeilly was the perfect launchpad for Denison’s jagged yet clean-toned riffing and Yow’s mercurial vocalizations manifesting as everything from panicked citizen, reality escapee or wounded sea mammal. the Jesus Lizard’s fury carried on through six studio albums, two live recordings and a brace of singles and EPs. On Rack, the Jesus Lizard have returned reconstituted, refreshed and positively revving. No tepid, bland tracks to show how they’ve “matured” as songwriters. No inane detours into unnecessary genre exercises. the Jesus Lizard. They might not be young, but they will never, ever get fucking old.

Willie Watson [LP]
$24.98  24.98
chart cover
After 30 years of playing music professionally, Willie Watson is releasing his debut album. A founding member of Old Crow Medicine Show, and a staple on the folk and americana circuit - Willie is no stranger to the stage and to audiences. But this is his first album of original music, aptly self titled, and a bold and confident statement in both song mastery and sonics. This record is about beating the devil. Willie didn't make any specific pact with him, but he had been tangled up with him his whole life. This album is about finding himself free of that devil, and learning to love himself again. It is about no longer leaning on old sounds and old folk singers and the music they made, and instead about learning to express himself freely and without limits. The result is a masterpiece.

The Forest Is The Path [Indie Exclusive Marbled Blue 2 LP Limited Edition]
$39.98  48.25
chart cover
Including the new single, “The Beginning,” The Forest Is The Path is an album rooted in reflection, introspection and interrogation. One of its key building blocks, says Gary Lightbody, was the idea of love from a distance, “I haven’t been in a relationship for a very long time, 10 years or more, so love from a distance to me meant the way a relationship sits in your memory from a distance of, say, 10 years. That’s not something I’d previously thought about as a way to write about love. So, it’s like, when you’re in love, you’re standing in the lobby of the Empire State Building. When you’ve broken up with that person, you’re out in the street. You can still see the building, but you’re not in there anymore. And when it’s 10 years later, now you’re standing in Brooklyn looking at the Manhattan skyline.”

Devourer [Red & Black 2 LP]
$44.98  44.99
chart cover
Very few bands manage to last decades, and for the ones that do, it’s often easy to settle down and get a little too comfortable. But there’s nothing comfortable about Devourer, the explosive new album from Cursive. The iconic Omaha group is known for their intensity, ambition, and execution, and has spent 30 years creating a bold discography that’s defined as much by its cathartic sound as its weighty, challenging lyrical themes. And Devourer is as daring as ever. Full of intense and incisive songs, the album proves exactly why Cursive have been so influential and enduring–and why they remain so vital today. In the years since their 1995 formation, Cursive developed into one of the most important groups to emerge from the late-’90s/early ‘00s moment when the lines between indie rock and post-hard-core began blurring into something altogether new. Albums like Domestica (2000) and The Ugly Organ (2003) became essential touchstones whose echoes can still be heard in new bands today. Devourer, as an expansive new double-album, examines humanity’s bottomless capacity for consumption through a series of songs that act like vignettes, driven by frontman Tim Kasher’s never-end-ing appetite for both taking in and creating art. “I am obsessive about consuming the arts,” he explains. “Music, film, literature. I’ve come to recognize that I devour all of these art forms then, in turn, create my own versions of these things and spew them out onto the world. It’s positive; you’re part of an ecosystem. But I quickly recognized that the term, ‘Devourer,’ may also embody something gnarly, sinister.” Fans have come to expect such heady topics from Cursive, but Devourer sets a new standard. While Cursive’s music hasn’t gotten any more comfortable, perhaps its being released into a world that’s at least a little more shaped in their image. Devourer sounds urgent and fresh, the work of a band still experimenting, still hungering to find new creative heights. On album highlight “Consumers,” the protagonist bemoans, “I saw ourn future and I want to go back.” But Cursive are only moving forward.

Dayglow [LP]
$32.99  39.63
chart cover

Multi-platinum indie pop artist Dayglow reveals his new self-titled project and celebrates the official announcement by dropping his latest single “Cocoon.” DAYGLOW embodies exactly who Sloan Struble is as an artist and creative and acts as a proper introduction into the bright and colorful Dayglow world. The 10-track debut record was solely written, performed, recorded, produced, and mixed by Struble himself in his Malibu home studio. He opens up and shares, “When I was 18 years old, I made my mixtape Fuzzybrain. I was a pretty introverted kid from a reasonably small town in Texas, so I didn’t expect much to happen ‘commercially’ for the record—I just made it for my own enjoyment, really. As a fan of the 2010’s indie music scene (MGMT, The Strokes, Phoenix, Passion Pit, etc.), I wanted to see what kind of album I could make completely alone in my bedroom. So, out of the quest to make something I loved, Dayglow was born. It was a clear reflection of myself at that time. It was pure, naive, goofy, guitar-driven indie-pop made to be played live by a 5-piece band (that I didn’t even have yet).”

Some band names take on a talismanic quality, revealing mystical depths the musicians may never have intended. For Gardens & Villa, the name became downright prophetic. The quartet of Chris Lynch, Adam Rasmussen, Shane McKillop, and Dustin Ineman, took their moniker from Villa Avenue, where they first shared a home - and a garden - in Santa Barbara, California. Now, a decade and a half later, the band is set to release their fifth album, Ultra Terrestrial, on September 13 2024. The record finds Gardens & Villa returning to the roots of their namesake, highlighting the expansive growth they've weathered, and the familial bonds they've forged over their 15 years together.

The Surface Seems So Far [Opaque White LP]
$24.98  26.69
chart cover
The Surface Seems So Far is unapologetically aggressive, kicking off with the barn-burning “Judas Mind.” This isn’t to say the album doesn’t have moments of melancholy, like “Regret.” The record takes many twists and turns, emphasizing catchy hooks and driving bombast. Songs like the chunky but atmospheric “Illusion,” the pulsating “Lost All Control,” the dynamic neo-grunge of “Same Mistakes,” and the moving and immersive “Dead on the Vine” are massive additions to the Seether catalog. Seether sounds alternately confident and confessional, full of vitriol and vulnerability.

Flood [Indie Exclusive Clear Galaxy 2 LP]
$32.98  32.98
chart cover
Hippo Campus' singer Jake Luppen had been listening to the band's work as they rolled around the country, trying to tease out how much work remained. All of it, he soon decided. Obfuscated by the need to sound sophisticated and the overwhelming ambition to make the best Hippo Campus LP ever, a deeper and more profound record that reflected how their lives were changing. But Luppen and all of Hippo Campus decided they didn't actually like what they were making. So they called an audible. They were going to start over. And three months later, the four-member core of Hippo Campus rendezvoused with longtime collaborator Caleb Wright and producer Brad Cook at Sonic Ranch, a playground-like studio complex on the Texas border. They gave themselves 10 days to cut the tracks they liked best, to make something to which they could commit at last. Less than two weeks later, they emerged with what they'd given themselves half a decade to make-Flood, or the best album Hippo Campus has ever made. The sentiments on Flood are raw, real, and unguarded, a testament to Hippo Campus dropping preconceptions of how they had to sound after so many failed attempts to re-record these songs. They wiped the slate clean, starting over without beliefs about what Hippo Campus or this record needed to be. Still, sophistication lurks in subtle key and tempo changes, in the almost innate shifts that a band of longtime best friends can tap after so much time spent helping to shape one another's musical language. Flood doesn't need to tell you it's important or interesting; it simply is, just by virtue of how it's written, built, and rendered, a map of what it's like to feel everything at once. This rebirth is accompanied by a crucial career shift for Hippo Campus, too, as they exit the traditional label system to issue LP4 via Psychic Hotline, a truly independent imprint run by peers and pals. If you're working to let go of expectations, why not jettison them all? There's a bravery to that, and you can hear it's revivifying spirit in every second of LP4.Early into the endlessly propulsive "Paranoid," where stunted acoustic strums undergird an inescapable jangle, Luppen asks an existential question: "Is there something waiting out there for us at the finish line?" For the next three minutes, the band cycles with him through his woes, from the title's overwhelming worry to notions of dislocation and loneliness. (Also, is there any other refrain ever that manages to make the phrase "so god-damned fucking" sound so catchy and natural?) But in the final verse, with his voice breaking through a scrim of distortion, he stumbles upon a new credo: "Wait, I wanna give this life all that I have in me." That is precisely what Hippo Campus have done with Flood after realizing it doesn't take a lifetime-or, well, five years-to do just that.

3rd
$34.98  36.94
chart cover
"Is the third time always a charm?" Mitchell Tenpenny vulnerably wonders on his song "The 3rd," the title track and cornerstone of his upcoming third studio album. The husky-voiced, tenderhearted chart-topper is the third James Mitchell Tenpenny in his family and feels the weight of the responsibility that comes with that history. Is he living up to his potential? Is he making his family proud? What happens to the name if he doesn't have a son? The song is a relatable gut punch for anyone concerned with meeting familial expectations - it's unflinching sincerity the unbreakable tie that binds the album. - Mitchell's vision for the The 3rd is a testament to his personal growth and artistic evolution. No longer playing games, he has crafted an album that resonates with his own experiences and emotions. This honest and empathetic collection not only showcases his maturity as a man, singer, songwriter, and storyteller but also invites listeners to join him on his creative journey through life and music. - An eclectic mix of songs, styles and genres that are each meaningful and representative of the singer, The 3rd is designed to offer something for everyone. Mitchell worked with the preciseness of an artistic surgeon while choosing songs and sequencing, even opting to cover The Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris," the first song he learned to play on guitar. Mitchell's distinct voice glides through uptempo tracks laced with synth, anchored with loops and driven by banjo then turns convicted and passionate, soaring with hard-driving guitar solos and wailing through heartbreaking choruses. - The 3rd is both his story - and a made-up narrative. Stitching each genre, style, and story so seamlessly together is a musical triumph for himself and his fans, showcasing the courage and unparalleled artistry of James Mitchell Tenpenny.

The debut album from Nashville country-rocker Jett Holden and first release on the newly-formed Black Opry Records, The Phoenix is a full-circle moment for both the artist and organization. As she developed the organization into a commanding touring entity and supportive community for Black country music performers and fans, he became one of the most acclaimed members of the Black Opry, with praise from NPR Morning Edition, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker and more. When it came to launching a record label arm, it was finally Jett's time. Moon Music, the highly anticipated tenth album from Coldplay lands on October 4 2024.

Moon Music, which was produced by Max Martin, is available to pre-order now,

In tandem with Coldplay’s ground-breaking sustainability measures on their current tour - which has so far produced 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour - the band have gone to great lengths to make the physical release of Moon Music as sustainable as possible.

This will be the world's first album released as a 140g EcoRecord rPET LP, with each copy containing nine recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste. This will prevent the manufacture of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic, and provide an 85% reduction in manufacturing process CO2 emissions/kg compared to traditional 140g vinyl.

Additionally, the band have collaborated with long-time partners The Ocean Cleanup to create an additional format: the Notebook Edition EcoRecord rPET LP. The rPET for this edition comprises 70% river plastic, intercepted by The Ocean Cleanup from the Rio Las Vacas, Guatemala, and prevented from reaching the Gulf of Honduras and the Atlantic Ocean.

The CD editions of Moon Music will be the world’s first to be released on EcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams. This will provide at least a 78% CO2/kg emission reduction, and avoid the manufacture of more than five metric tonnes of virgin plastic.

In an effort to reduce waste, the first edition run of Moon Music(both EcoRecord rPET LP and EcoCD) will be strictly limited and produced at a higher specification than any future editions. All First Edition EcoRecord rPET LP products will be individually numbered.
